Bihar CM Lays Foundation Stone to Redevelop PMCH into World's Largest Hospital

If everything goes as per the plan, India will very soon see its biggest hospital in the next five. The hospital that will be soon constructed in Patna will be equipped with a special helipad for emergency air ambulance along with 60 modular operation theatres and 5462 beds.

After planning for close to a decade, CM Nitish Kumar on Monday laid the foundation stone at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) which is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 5540 crore.

In his address to the media after the inauguration, the chief minister urged the contractors to complete the project within five years for the sake of humanity and assured them that additional resources and support will be provided to meet the set deadline for completing the hospital.

"The Patna Medical College and Hospital will be redeveloped into a world-class structure without hampering the current operations of the medical services," Kumar said.

According to official information, the hospital that is being built over 78 lakh square feet will also have 487 emergency beds and a guest house with a capacity for 715 persons. The hospital complex will also have 550 nurse quarters and 360 studio apartments.

What is touted to be the world's second-largest and India's only biggest hospital will also have a massive parking capacity for 3334 vehicles. The chief minister also said that the hospital will be linked with elevated roads for easy and uninterrupted access for patients and their families.

मुजफ्फरपुर (बिहार) की सड़कें, चौक और गलियारे शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय के कोकिल कंठ की आवाज़, बांसुरी की तान और मजलिसों को याद करते हैं

अप्रतिम कथाशिल्पी शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय के पात्र जितने अलमस्त, जीवन की ऊर्जा से भरपूर और योद्धा प्रवृत्ति के हैं, उतने ही संवेदनशील व प्रेम के रस से सराबोर भी हैं। शरत के सृजन का मुरीद पूरा जहान है। इसी तरह मुजफ्फरपुर के लोग इस बात से गौरवान्वित हैं कि शरत ने उनके शहर की ज़मीन पर पूरे एक साल अहसासों के अनगिन इंद्रधनुष रचे हैं। यहां की फिजाओं में उनके कोकिल कंठ की आवाज़ गूंज चुकी है! शरत का इश्क भी यहां परवान चढ़ा। पिटाई तक हुई और जब लिखने की ओर प्रवृत्त हुए तो साहू पोखर के विशाल मंदिर के एक कोने में बैठकर कहानियां व उपन्यास रचे।

साधु की संगत और भिक्षाटन

मुजफ्फरपुर में ऐसे लोगों की कमी न थी, जो घुमंतू और फक्कड़ कथा-शिल्पी शरतचंद्र से चिढ़ते थे, वहीं उनके मुरीदों की संख्या भी खूब थी। कहते हैं, प्रेयसी निरदा के प्रेम में व्याकुल होकर शरतचंद्र घर छोड़ निकल पड़े थे, तब एक साधु को उन्होंने गुरु बना लिया था। साधु ने बार-बार कहा कि बेटा, घर लौट जा, यह पथ बड़ा ही दुर्गम है... लेकिन शरत नहीं माने। शरत की धुन पर मुग्ध साधु ने उन्हें गेरुआ वस्त्र और रुद्राक्ष देकर शिष्य बना लिया। साधु के सत्संग में शरत कुछ दिन रमे रहे, फिर सबकुछ छोड़छाड़ पहुंच गए मुजफ्फरपुर।

साल 1900 की घटना है। गेरुए रंग में रंगे शरत ने भिक्षाटन में भी संकोच नहीं किया। कुछ दिन इसी तरह खाते-पीते हुए स्टेशन के पास धर्मशाला में बिताए। एक दिन बंगाली क्लब "वीणा कंसर्ट'' में पहुंच गए और वहां जो व्यक्ति सबसे पहले मिला, उससे ठेठ हिंदी में बोले, "मुझे चिट्ठी लिखने के लिए पोस्टकार्ड चाहिए।'' पोस्टकार्ड मिल जाने पर कलम मांगी और एक तरफ बैठ चिट्ठी लिखने लगे। गेरुआ वस्त्रधारी को बांग्ला लिपि में चिट्ठी लिखते देख संस्कृतिप्रेमी प्रमथनाथ भट्ट ने परिचय पूछा तो शरत बोले, "मैं एक साधारण बिहारी मानुस हूं।'' प्रमथनाथ ने मुस्कराते हुए कहा, "ये सब रहने दीजिए। हम आपको पहचान गए। अपनी मातृभाषा में बात कीजिए।'' उनकी बात सुन शरत मुस्करा दिए।

सुर भरी बांसुरी से सम्मान

शरत बहुत अच्छी बांसुरी बजाते थे। धर्मशाला से गुजरते हुए एक दिन संगीत प्रेमी निशानाथ वंद्योपाध्याय सुरीली कंठध्वनि सुनकर उन्हें अपने घर ले आए। बड़े भाई शिखरनाथ से परिचय कराया तो वे हंसकर बोले- "जानता हूं, तुम्हारी भाभी ने इनके बारे में बताया था। ये कहानियां भी लिखते हैं।'' अब रोज संगीत की मजलिस जमने लगी। उसी मजलिस में ज़मींदार महादेव प्रसाद साहू से परिचय हुआ। फिर तो दोनों में जमकर छनने लगी। शरत देर रात निशानाथ के घर मदहोश होकर लौटते। आखिरकार, शरत को ये आसरा छोड़ना पड़ा। महादेव साहू सहारा बने। हालांकि उनके रिश्तेदारों ने शरत पर आरोप लगाया कि उन्होंने महादेव को पथभ्रष्ट कर दिया है। बावजूद इसके, दोनों की दोस्ती पर कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ा।

अनगिन किस्से "गल्प गंधर्व'' के...

शरत सिर्फ लिखते नहीं थे, किस्सेबाज भी आला दरजे के थे। उनकी झूठी-सच्ची कहानियां सुनकर लोग अचंभे में रह जाते। एक बार महादेव साहू की मजलिस में उन्होंने कहानी सुनाई- "मैंने राणाघाट में पुलिस के हाथों से एक लड़की को मुक्त कराया और उसकी प्राणरक्षा की।'' कुछ लोग इस दावे की सत्यता परखने राणाघाट चले गए। वहां छानबीन की तो सब कपोल कल्पित निकला। इन्हीं बातों के चलते वे "गल्प-गंधर्व'' भी कहे जाने लगे। दिन मस्ती में कट रहे थे कि एक रोज शरत को राह से गुजरती हुई निरदा दिख गईं। वही निरदा, जिसके प्रेम में पागल होकर उन्होंने घर-द्वार छोड़ दिया। वे निरदा के पीछे-पीछे चल पड़े, बदले में पीटे गए। बेहोश शरत की चेतना जब लौटी तो खुद को महादेव के घर पाया। हालांकि इस घटना से भी शरत ने सबक नहीं लिया। शहर के एक अधिवक्ता की बेटी राजबाला के साथ उनका स्नेहिल रिश्ता चर्चा में रहा।

About Renu Devi, New Dy. CM of Bihar

Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth consecutive term on Monday, November 16. BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi were also sworn in as deputy chief ministers.

While Nitish Kumar needs no mention, the other two names particularly Renu Devi may not be familiar to many. But her political will and dedication have catapulted her to becoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar.

Renu Devi belongs to the Nonia community which is classified as an Extremely Backward Class (EBC) and is considered to be a strong vote bank of Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United.

Renu Devi has for a very long time been heading the BJP's women wing at the state and national level. Her appointment, therefore, is being seen by many as a reward for the role that women voters have played in NDAs victory in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

Born in November 1959 Renu Devi joined the RSS after finishing her school. She is educated till Std. 12th. She worked in various capacities in the organisation and her role largely concerned the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh region.

In 1988 she was made a district coordinator of VHPs Durga Vahini- the women's wing.

The next year she was made the chief of BJP women's wing of the Champaran region. From here she began to gain strength and was soon made the chief of the women's wing of her party's Bihar unit.

In 2014 Renu Devi was made the party's vice-president and she continued to work in the capacity till she was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar today. She has also been appointed deputy leader of BJP's legislature party.

Renu Devi contested her first election from the Nautan assembly constituency on a BJP ticket in 1995 and lost by a slim margin. She again fought the assembly election in 2000 on a BJP ticket and won by a margin of 10000 votes. She was also appointed as the minister of culture in the Bihar cabinet of 2007.

Renu Devi has been contesting the assembly election from the Bettiah constituency since 2000 and has won all elections barring 2015 in which she lost by a margin of 2000 votes to the Congress candidate.
